As the government lifted the quarantine lockdown in Ho Chi Minh and surrounding areas, workers fled the heavy covid hitting of south industrial and headed back to the countryside.The Vietnamese government estimates the exodus could exceed two million people.  

Vietnam's textile and clothing industry may not be able to meet its production and business targets due to the epidemic according to The Vietnam News. The association described the last three months of the year as an extremely difficult period for the textile industry. The biggest risk is supply chain disruption as customers shift orders to other markets. The second is labor shortages caused by workers returning home in large numbers to escape the epidemic. As a result, the industry will struggle to meet its export target of $39 billion for the full year, which was the same as pre-pandemic 2019.
